Lost items, illness, disaster — getting help in an emergency.
Emergency process:
Call the emergency number (Police 110 / Ambulance-Fire 119) → report your location and the situation → follow instructions to evacuate or wait for help.
What to bring:
Residence card, phone, and a small amount of cash.
Note:
If there's a language barrier, say "Eigo (Chuugokugo) o onegaishimasu" (English/Chinese, please) — you'll be connected to an interpreter.
For non-emergency safety concerns, call #9110.
Check the location of your nearest designated evacuation shelter in advance.
Disaster evacuation process:
Check your safety and the situation → turn off fire sources/breakers if there's time → grab your emergency bag and ID → head to the nearest designated evacuation site → register following staff instructions.
Disaster kit essentials:
Residence card, passport, phone and a portable battery, cash (mostly coins), drinking water, regular medication, and a flashlight.
Disaster tips:
"Hinanbasho" (temporary gathering point) and "hinanjo" (longer-term shelter) are different: right after an earthquake, go to an open space like a park first; move to a shelter like a school gym only if your home becomes unlivable.
Communication networks often get overloaded during disasters — download the "Safety Tips" app in advance, or use the disaster message dial 171 to let people know you're safe.
Check the hazard map (hazaado mappu) and evacuation routes around your home in advance.
